Wales and West Utilities supply gas to 7.5m customers across Wales and the South West. Their website is vital to respond to gas emergencies, provide important information on gas upgrades in your area as well as helping vulnerable
people stay safe and warm.
After Wales & West completed a re-brand, I worked to update the branding across their flagship website, moving towards a more modern and accessible brand identity. During the process it was vital to create components that while visually look unique and correspond with the re-brand, needed to be easy to use as the company would content load on there own. The user journey was also Important to improve as it lacked a clear route to travel through the old site, whilst also hiding content that could be deemed necessary.
The Vision
I knew the new branding used some vibrant gradients colours and Illustrations which could be used as the focal point. I adapted the use of some Hexagonal shapes that had curved corners to be used as placeholder blocks for text which would also house the coloured gradients. Every design I did had to easily apply with WCAG standards as this was a key factor the client wanted to include with this project which only made the prospective design work more exciting.
The outcome
What was delivered was more than the desired outcome. Th design work was pulled off flawlessly and made better with a collaborative effort between both Design and Development teams. The website journey has been streamlined to make navigating the site much easier. Visual styling mixes the vibrant colours and interesting Isometric Illustrations make the designs pop on users screens adding in a much needed flare. The client was overwhelming happy with the final output.
